It rained off & on the first two weeks we were staying on Lake Havasu, BML, one day we even got high winds and dark clouds covered the Lake’s surrounding hills. It was pretty interesting to see a storm of this size play-out in desert surroundings. At sunset the rain stopped and the dark clouds lifted, revealing a dusting of snow on the highest peaks! I grabbed my iPhone
ran down from touring the inside of a super cool bus converted to motorhome and started snapping photos from the beach behind our camping buddies’ 5th-wheel. You can see the snowy peaks in the center of the photo. I thought the dramatic clouds against the sunset colors and palm trees gave the beach a tropical island look, certainly not what I expected in the desert. The SOOC photo below turned out blue and gray and lacked the pinks that my eye saw so here is how I edited it.
Photo Edit Process…
Post camera photo edit was done using Topaz Labs, Adjust. I used Adjust’s preset, Lomo 1, a cross process, to enhance the original pinks, purples and blues and to crank up the contrast to show the drama in the clouds.

Not being able to control myself in the editing department…as you know from post last Sunday, I had so much fun making animated gif’s – I, again, used (free) Online-Image-Editor.com to make animated rain & snow GIFs
even tho it did not snow at the lake : ) Very cool! The program includes drifting rain, hearts, & sparkles, or you can do what I did and Google a free snow transparency gif and upload that into the program to use. Did you notice that animated drifting snow was the big trend this year for animated Christmas eCards and photos online? Once I saw them used on a couple of blogs, I became All In to learn how to make my own GIF. It just took me too long to get to point of trying snow…so I missed the whole Christmas time-frame.
(below) I tried out another gif-maker called, lunapic.com. This is how that appears…both programs are easy to use & free. Try them out!
Have a peaceful Sunday,
