Transition to Fall 2016 – Scattering Colour

week-3

I don’t like to invest too much time into any one thing, “having too many pokers in the fire,” is what my mom used to call it. Once I decide to do something, I try to get it done and then I’m off to the next great idea. Certainly seasonal decorating is that way.

Today is Week 3 – Transition to Fall, which for me means Day 3 or even Hour 3. I spent a small amount of time clearing off Summer decor, dusting and then throwing some fall colour & texture onto 7 surfaces in the house. Quick & Simple, nothing complicated and everything FREE, from my box of Fall Season Decor.

Let’s begin where I left you on Week 2; the fireplace had a huge transformation using only a thick board to enlarge the mantel depth, and of course some styling.

Week 3,  (mantel reveal and) Scattering Colour…

I slipped my newly built mantel box over the bricks and laid that same wood board on top again. What a custom look that gave the fireplace! The future plan is to reface the front bricks with stone, so I built the mantel to be removable with space to fit over the stonework. The build was a simple DIY project that I will post about soon. Remember I said last week I always over-decorate the mantel, then remove a third of the stuff? Well, I removed a lot more again and changed out the painting. I like this less crowded look better, just enough to create a cozy Fall mood to the room.

New Mantel…it is amazing how the new boxed mantel lifts the eye UP the tall wall, giving weight and balance to the room. The new mantel’s simple cottage/craftsman design mimics the window & door trim molding in the room.

Scattering Fall Colour…

Here’s where it all came together. I quickly went from room-to-room scattering small doses of Fall colour around.

Living room…

Confession: I still have to stitch up the sides of the fun striped throw pillows (below), but I thought you would like to see them. Can’t be easier than that.

Dining room table…

When November arrives I will be glad to have this much decoration already done. I can quickly add a runner, some chargers and plates to the dining table and voilà it’s ready for a dinner party.

Bathroom…

Fresh new towels, pine cones on the corner river rocks, and a couple of faux’liage arrangements. The leaf burlap painting is from last year’s fall post HERE.

Coffee Station… Of course my coffee center had to get its little fall makeover! It’s my happy place where my day begins each morning.

Fall is in the Air, do you feel it?

My dog paint-by-number picture from last week’s mantel is now in the process of getting DIY frame. I hope to share that and some other things I am now working on – soon. Humm…too many pokers…

Thanks for Meeting Me Lakeside!
